SAP & Me

It was July 2002 when I decide to take the plunge into enterprise software from IT infrastructure and software management at my university. My wife played the key role in this transition. After long hours of soul searching and brainstorming we agreed that I could do best in SAP. I left a well paying job at my university and got myseld trained in ABAP. Got a nice position after 6 months with PricewaterhouseCoopers, India. I learnt the advanced concepts of ABAP and SAP there. I stayed there for a year before moving to TATA Consultancy Services Limited. At TCS, I was able to work in those areas what I learnt earlier.

Soon I was in Japan, rolling out a SAP solution for Japan Turbine Technologies (JTT) in Chiba. Teaching SAP to a Japanese audience was challenging but exciting and I did well. the first part of the rollout went well and I was back for a few months. Soon after, I went to Taiwan for rolling out a similar solution for Asian Compressor Technology Services (ACTS) in Taoyuan. I had a colleague, Sanjay Joshi, as a part of the team, from whom I learnt of SAP functionality and business processes. Sanjay works for TATA Technologies. The time spent with him was the most valuable experience in my SAP career till now. The Taiwan project went live successfully. The whirlwind did not stop. Soon I found myself in Japan again for JTT again for the second phase of the rollout. We went live successfully again.

By this time I had mastered a lot of SAP processes related to MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) for Aerospace and Defense. I am presently looking after ABAP development for Pratt & Whitney Fleet Management.
